About the Technology
What does Shockwave’s technology do?
We combine drying and particle size reduction into a single continuous process, transforming wet, bulky, or inconsistent byproduct into a stable, uniform material — without separate drying and milling equipment.
Is this the same equipment for every material, or something different for each one?
It's one core platform. The same drying, milling, and particle size reduction technology adapts across materials — including bone meal, fly ash, eggshell, food and beverage byproduct, and biochar — rather than requiring a different system for each.
Does your process require natural gas or added heat?
It depends on the application, but it can run fully electric — no natural gas or inlet heat required.
Do you work with facilities outside of the United States or is there a service area you cover?
We’re not limited to a specific region — we have units placed all over the world. Contact us to discuss your location and what deployment would look like for your facility.
Getting Started
How do I know if my material is a good fit?
Check our Input Compatibility Guide to see how your material is currently categorized — proven, conditional, or incompatible. If it’s conditional or not listed, contact us to discuss further or schedule a trial to review.
Do I have to commit to a full installation to try this out?
No. Contact us first to see if we’ve already run your material — if so, we can share those results directly. We can also run a trial on our demo equipment with your exact material so you can see real performance data on your own material before making any commitment.
What happens during a pilot trial?
We run your actual material through our system and share the resulting data — moisture reduction, particle consistency, throughput — so you can evaluate real results before moving forward. You're welcome to join us in Redfield, Iowa to watch the trial in person. We ask for at least two weeks' notice to schedule, and a minimum of 1,000 lbs of material for testing.
Materials & Applications
What materials can your technology process?
A wide range of post-consumer, post-agricultural, and post-food waste streams — bone meal, fly ash, eggshell (calcium and membrane), spent grains, citrus peel, shellfish waste, and biochar, among others.
What can the recovered material actually be used for?
It depends on the material — examples include animal feed, pet nutrition, fertilizer and soil amendments, concrete and cement (SCMs), cosmetics and nutraceuticals, and plastics.
What’s the highest moisture content your equipment can handle?
As a general rule, any input above roughly 80% moisture (dissolved solids) doesn’t blend predictably and can’t move through the system consistently. Check our Input Compatibility Guide or contact us to discuss your specific material.
How much moisture can we remove from our product?
It depends on the product. Moisture reduction performance varies by material, so the best way to get an accurate answer is to contact us directly — we can walk through your specific material and share the results we’ve seen on similar products in the past.

What kind of space and facility setup does the equipment require?
A typical installation footprint is 30’ × 40’ × 25’ (L × W × H), which includes the baghouse and electrical cabinet, with an installed height clearance of 25 ft. This is a starting-point figure — if your site has space constraints, the footprint can often be reduced through engineering modifications. Contact us to discuss your facility and what layout would work best.
How long does it take from sale to deployment?
Timelines vary based on how quickly we’re able to move through discovery, how many trial runs are needed to confirm fit, and how responsive both sides are throughout the process. As a general benchmark, lead time is typically 30 to 40 weeks from sale to deployment.
What does a system cost?
Cost varies based on your specific product, installation requirements, and facility needs, but as a general range, systems typically run $1.4M to $2.2M. Contact us for a more precise estimate based on your application.
Sustainability
How does this support sustainability goals?
By diverting material from landfills, reducing reliance on mined or fossil-fuel-derived inputs, and — where applicable — eliminating natural gas from the drying process.
